Ms. Rebecca Davison

Ms. Davison is a native of the D.C. area and received her Bachelor’s In English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. After a few years of substitute teaching, she went on to obtain a Master’s in Reading Education and was a reading specialist in elementary school for ten years. She went back to pursue a Master’s in School Counseling at George Mason and has been an elementary school counselor with Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) for the past three years. Ms. Davison enjoys working in such a diverse community as Polk and seeks to help all students achieve their maximum academic, social, emotional, and physical development and become successful lifelong learners.

Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, Ms. Davison works with the school staff, parents and community to create a caring climate and atmosphere.  By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, she helps all students achieve academic success. School counselors offer individual counseling, small group counseling, monthly classroom guidance lessons, and much more.

Mrs. Nancy Ritter

Mrs. Ritter is Polk’s new full-time professional school counselor. This year she will be teaching lessons in our K-2nd grade classrooms as well as taking on the role of 504 coordinator, conducting small group counseling, and much more to support the social and emotional development of all of our students. Mrs. Ritter studied Psychology at Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) and earned a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as well as a Master's Degree in Education Leadership from George Mason University.  This is her 18th year in education.  When she is not at school, Mrs. Ritter enjoys spending time with her family, working out, and being outdoors.  Mrs. Ritter decided she wanted to be a school counselor when she was in 2nd grade so this is truly her passion.  She cannot wait to work with the Polk community and form relationships with each student this school year.
